My favorite thing to do in Atlanta is...

My favorite thing to do in Atlanta is exploring! This city is huge, and there are so many fun finds. The restaurants, breweries, and markets are all so unique, and it is fun to find new places and try new things.

Before nursing school, I was...

Before nursing school, I attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and received my Bachelor of Science in Child Development with a Minor in Neuroscience. I graduated from Vandy in May 2019 and started at Emory in August 2019. When I started at Vanderbilt, I thought I wanted to be a doctor, as I always dreamed of working in healthcare. I specifically wanted to work in pediatric oncology. I decided during my junior year at Vandy that nursing makes much more sense for me and my personality. I want to be on the floor with these kids, fighting in the trenches with them against cancer. I am so glad that I chose to go to nursing school--nursing is where I belong.

What has been the highlight of nursing school so far?

The highlight of nursing school is most definitely the clinical experience. Learning things in a classroom is one thing, but being on your feet in the hospital caring for patients is a whole other ball game. I love the feeling of being in the hospital. It teaches you to think on your feet, to trust your gut, and to rely on the knowledge and skills you've worked so hard to learn along the way. It feels like the true culmination of nursing school studies, and there is always something new to learn!

I chose Emory because...

I chose Emory for a few reasons. First, I knew I wanted to do an accelerated nursing program, as I had already received my bachelor's degree from Vandy. In reading about different ABSN programs around the country, Emory stuck out to me the most. I also chose Emory because I wanted to stay in the southeast area. My family still lives in Alabama, and I really wanted to stay within driving distance of them. The biggest reason I chose Emory, though, was for the caliber of the program. Being ranked in the top 5 nursing schools in the country caught my eye, and the 100% NCLEX pass rate was definitely a draw. I wanted a program that would allow me to learn the knowledge and skills while also challenging me to be the best version of myself. Emory has been that for me.
