Major: Nursing (BSN)

I chose Emory because...

its dynamic Woodruff Health Sciences Center, which unites the nursing, public health, and medical schools, along with the Emory Global Health Institute, Winship Cancer Institute, and the most comprehensive healthcare system in the state. This interprofessional collaboration across departments sparked my interest. Emory Healthcare offers 11 hospitals, which really sets the institution apart. I knew that it would enhance my learning and give me hands-on experiences serving Atlanta’s urban communities. In addition to its local focus, I also recognized and appreciated the global impacts and extension of care to rural Georgia that the School of Nursing (SON) expands. Emory's location just across the street from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is incredible. Finally, its emphasis on Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) equips me to make a meaningful contribution to health equity in my future career.

Before nursing school, I was...

a home health aide and a patient screener with triage teams during the early strains of the pandemic. I took on roles as a care concierge for a national retail urgent care and an admin for dermatological, cancer, and cosmetic surgery practices offering advanced cancer treatments. I also worked as a campaign coordinator and political activist for a county council election focused on advocating for underrepresented Latino, Hispanic, and Black communities.

What has been the highlight of nursing school so far?

The highlight of nursing school so far has been a life-changing clinical immersion in Cusco, Peru, partnering with CerviCusco and Emory Nursing to focus on women’s health. I had the opportunity to support breast and cervical cancer prevention efforts while working with Quechua and Peruvian women. Beyond clinical care, I helped promote community health at local hospitals, schools, and orphanages. I was amazed by how Peru's Ministry of Health creatively addresses challenges with innovative solutions to improve health outcomes despite limited resources. This experience deepened my understanding of the impact of compassionate care and the resilience of the communities we serve, leaving me inspired and reaffirming my passion for advancing health equity globally.

My favorite thing to do in Atlanta is...

exploring the lush trails of Lullwater Preserve, a gem owned by Emory. The path winds through serene forests, past the historic mansion, and over a scenic bridge. Being a student here makes it even more special, having this peaceful escape so close. I also love strolling the BeltLine near Ponce City Market, with its mix of local vendors, pop-ups, farmers markets, and great spots to shop and eat. It is the perfect place to experience the spirit of the city.

I'm passionate about...
