Before nursing school, I was...

Before starting nursing school, I was an undergrad at The University of Alabama. Roll Tide! I majored in Public Health and minored in Human Development and Family Studies. I worked two different jobs during my time at Bama. The first, starting during the summer going into my Junior year, I worked as a Medical Assistant at an urgent care. This was a great introduction to healthcare and allowed me to get some hands-on experience and make me feel more comfortable in the healthcare setting. After getting some experience at the urgent care, I left to pursue a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with our football team in their Sports Medicine unit as a student assistant during my Senior year. Here, I got to work with the football team including the players and the staff with COVID testing and vaccinations, got to enhance my charting skills by updating the player's medical charts, worked as an assistant on game days by helping the players out with what they may have needed during the game: water, cold towels, IVs if necessary. I truly enjoyed both jobs and was so grateful for the opportunities. Aside from school and working, I also am a figure skater. I was competitive and also did annual shows that my home rink would put on. Currently, I am working as a Learn to Skate instructor which has been a lot of fun.

My favorite thing to do in Atlanta is...

I am new to the Atlanta area, however, it has been a lot of fun trying new restaurants and exploring the area. I got to go to Mercedes Benz Stadium in September to watch my alma mater(University of Alabama) play in the Chick-Fil-A kickoff game. I have also been enjoying the Beltline and hope to continue exploring around Atlanta!

I chose Emory because...

I chose Emory because of its excellence in academics, professors, and the fact that they were offering a Master's degree. I applied to Emory, and a few other schools, and when I was accepted, it was such an easy decision for me to chose Emory because of not only getting to obtain a Masters in Nursing but also because I knew I would get an amazing education taught by some of the best professors. All of that has been proven true so far and I couldn't be happier with my decision. Nursing school can be intimidating, but the faculty and staff at Emory have been outstanding at making sure their students are comfortable and want to work with you to make sure you succeed.

What has been the highlight of nursing school so far?

The highlight of nursing school so far has been connecting with my classmates and forming a friend and study group! The professors have also been amazing at conveying the material and want you to succeed which has created such a positive learning environment. Also, getting to practice hands-on and apply material that you have learned in the lab/clinical setting has also been a great experience.
